Emory I3 Nexus Award

The Emory and Georgia Tech Investigator team composed of Dr. Bercu, Dr. Moon, Dr. Cooper, Dr. Yeo, and Dr. Teodorescu were recently awarded the I3 Nexus Grant by the Emory SOM / Georgia CTSA for an award amount of $125,000.

Our grant centers on integrating nano-membrane sensors into arteriovenous endografts (AVGs) for wireless monitoring of hemodialysis access health. We came up with this idea when we began to realize the clinical need around reliable monitoring of graft health. Specifically, in AVGs, the existing diagnostic paradigm is variable and often reactive.

The proposed solution aligns with shifts towards increased digital health monitoring and allows for continuous, wireless, and objective measures for early detection of graft complications for subsequent early intervention. Dr. Woon Hong Yeo (Co-PI), the inventor of this sensor technology, is our collaborator from the Georgia Institute of Technology. We are also collaborating with Dr. Teodorescu (Co-PI) from the Emory Department of Vascular Surgery. We are excited to begin this multi-disciplinary and inter-university project.
